I created the the language called [ɸə̰xᶣo̞̰ʁʷɨː], or the Voice, using what I find an interesting method. I looked at various reconstructed protolanguages, including ones that are not generally accepted, such as Nostratic and Dené-Caucasian, and chose a few words that looked like they could be cognates. I realize that they are unlikely really to be cognate, since we are pushing back further than most linguists consider possible, but I still found this an interesting exercise. Taking those seeming cognates, I created some sound laws that would link them to an earlier protolanguage, and discovered a structure that the naive would consider that of the hypothetical first language. This structure, with randomly generated words and an IPA-based script, is what I used for the Voice. This means I already have sound laws that I can apply to create diachronic conlangs based on various real world languages. I did consider using the reconstructed words, but there are predictably so few seeming cognates that there are not enough reconstructable words to make a usable language.
